Nuts and Bolts of an Ayurvedic Cleanse

Periodic cleansing is considered an important part of an Ayurvedic lifestyle, but the specific approach should always take into consideration one’s unique constitution, current state, strength, and age, as well as environmental and seasonal influences. Thankfully, there are many different ways to go about the process, and there is generally something for everyone. The overall structure, length, intensity, and depth can all be adapted to support the individual.

A particular aspect that Ayurveda holds with great regard is the stare of our digestive fire.

The metabolic fir also known as agni, in Sanskrit, drives all processes of physiological and psychological transformation. It turns food into  blood, tissue, bones, muscle, energy and not to mention consciousness!  It oversees digestion, absorption, and assimilation in the GI tract, as well as the exchange of nutrients on a cellular level. Even our thoughts feels and emotions are all under the process of digestion.  It is because of indigestion that toxins begin to build. Agni is also a key player in the ability of our immune system to defend us against illness.

“We are only as healthy as our Agni” – Dr. Vasant Lad

There are many many ways to support agni, but a cleanse is one of the most straightforward and effective.

Done correctly, a cleanse strengthens the digestive fire throughout the system and helps to eliminate toxins that might otherwise inhibit the bodies intelligence. Cleansing can serve to initiate a powerful process of renewal and healing on many levels.

This cleanse can be done to suit your time needs. For maximum benefit plan for at least 5 days up to 14. If you’d like to cleanse longer please work with a Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner.  Always consult with your doctor or other health care provider before any cleanse.
