Ayurvedic and Yogic Practices For Seasonal Support

When in Rome or should I say when in season… This is a time of major transition, not just for us but for the sun and the entire universe. The Fall equinox marked the official transition form long warm summer days to shorter and colder days. The knowledge that summer is gone – and winter is coming – is everywhere now, on the northern half of Earth’s globe.

Notice the transition in Nature…

The arc of the sun is shifting to the south. Birds and butterflies are migrating southward along with the path of the sun. Here in New Mexico the Bosque along the Rio Grande is teaming with all kids of migratory birds. Birds that primarily live costal lives are passing through and its such an amazing site!

The shorter days are bringing cooler weather. A chill is in the air. Creatures big and small are putting on their winter coats and preparing for the quiet inward energy of winter.

All around us fall is happening as trees and plants are ending their year long cycle. Perhaps the burst of brilliant colors offered by the tress is a salute to the inner fire that will be tended to over the the winter.

As creatures of the planet we too are in transition. Winter is a time for reflection, a time to focus our energies inward. According to Ayurveda its an ideal time to cleanse. Clear the canvas so that toxins don’t have a chance to settle in over winter and wreak havoc on your health. Its your 3000 mile oil change.

Because Fall shares a number of qualities with Vata dosha this is primarily a vata season.  This is the time of year you’ll want to switch to warm wholesome foods rather than smaller cold or chilled meals such as salads, juices and frozen foods.

On top of the season we are also under the influence of a some great moon action. On September 27th there was a Super Blood Moon and a total lunar eclipse.  Its also known as the Harvest Moon. So harvest your highest self and lets get on with it. The world needs us.

An Ayurvedic cleanse coupled with the awareness of change and transformation creates infinite potential.
